I’ve been pretty quiet the last couple weeks, but that’s because I’ve been a bit busy thinking about my 2012 and how I want the next year to go. So far, I have to say things are off to a great start! Coming into 2012 I decided it was really time to update my modeling portfolio. Just recently, I had a fun shoot with fashion photographer Justin Clynes of J Clynes Photography. Justin and I are kind of on the same journey … Models with Cameras! We’re both represented by Click Model Management in New York, and we’ve both transitioned to photography after 5+ years in front of the camera. Although he’s mainly a head shot fashion photographer and I mainly photograph weddings I found that we both have the familiar struggle of trying to balance our work in front of and behind the camera, yet we both find work on each side of the camera wildly fulfilling for 100 different reasons.
It was a breath of fresh air working with Justin. Like, we were on the same page. He’s an amazing and talented artist, with a big spirit and a bright outlook on life. It was great to connect with him the way I did. Not all photographers are created equal, but shooting with photographers like Justin always reminds me of why I decided to pick up the camera in the first place. Justin helped me to find my inner beauty, again …
although I gained almost 20 lbs since my last portfolio photo shoot …
although I don’t work out 10 hours a week like I used to …
although my husband tells me I’m beautiful every single day …
and although despite being a model for over 6 years, lately I haven’t been feeling at all confident in myself …
Justin helped me find it all again. The experience has reminded me why I do what I do behind the lens. I want all my clients and couples to feel this very same way. I understand the power of a picture … the emotional power strong photographs hold. Not just for the person looking at the photograph, but for the person IN the photograph. This is me and I am “gorgeous, hot, beautiful, sexy” or whatever the case may be when you see yourself in a photograph you LOVE. The saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” is so true, in fact … a strong picture is worth way more than a thousand words, its Priceless. It takes a special kind of photographer to create this power in an image.
How do you think I did? One thing’s for sure, I’m ready for 2012 and I’m SO ready for the gym tonight!
