Rainbow Wedding Inspiration – BRIDES Magazine August 2011

Rainbow Wedding Inspiration

Seems NOW more than ever Rainbow Weddings are the “In” thing and I couldn’t be happier with that vibe!

Check out this awesome spread in BRIDES magazine this month! Never be afraid to have fun with color for your wedding! Oh, and I love that the bride is wearing flats in the second image. Being that I’m a bride planning to wear flats, I had to give props to the stylist for that choice!

And lastly, if you haven’t already, please be sure to follow my RAINBOW WEDDING Pinterest Board!!

Wedding Dress Drama || New York Wedding Photographer

Yesterday was my first dress fitting. All should have been well with this portion of the wedding planning. My dress had been tucked away in the back of my closet, guarded in its pastic packaging for about 8 weeks now. I was happy when I arrived at my fitting and unwrapped it for the first time since picking it up.

All I have to say is …

IT

DID

NOT

FIT

And no, its not because I gained 20lbs in 8 weeks. The shop ordered the dress in the wrong size!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ordered a bigger 16 which is perfect for tailoring, but what I had stashed in my closed was actually a size 12. Stupid me for not double checking the tag before leaving that day.

Lets just say I spent all yesterday evening in a hysterical tizzy.  With only 7 weeks to go I technically don’t have a wedding dress. My options were to crash diet my way into a size 12 wedding dress (which is actually more like a size 8 in real life) or try to somehow get my hands on a size 14 dress and hope it fit. I’m in no mental condition to attempt losing over 25lbs in 6 weeks. Thank goodnes another David’s Bridal only 20 minutes away had a sample size 14 I could try on. It Fit …. perrrrrrfectly.  However, its a sample size.  The manager warned me of the risk of the actual 14 that arrives at the shop might still be too snug.  Those dresses are tried on by dozens of bodies, stretching out the fabric.

Well, you know what, lady?  I ordered this dress 16 weeks ago. You told me my first fitting needs to be scheuled 8 weeks before my wedding day to allow for alterations. Now I need a new dress that will arrive no earlier than 10 days before my wedding and you think I’m not going to order this 14?  I refuse to order a 16 and risk not having it altered in time.  Losing 10 lbs is more realistic than losing 25 lbs at this point.  Why is this so complicated and why does it take a year to get a wedding dress?? I’ll take THIS dress.

Bridezilla-ish?  Absolutely. Somewhat relieved?  A lttle bit.

My NEW dress will be a size 14 and will be here by September 15 (hopefully before).  They “garuntee” me that because of “the situation” they will be able to take the dress out OR in, in the back if its a bit snug or too lose AND have it ready in time for my wedding since I don’t need a hemming and its a “minor adjustment”.  Now I have more motivation than ever to get these 10lbs off.

Diet Starting ….  NOW.

I’m sure I will look back at this post later this year and just laugh ….

My Wedding Planning || New York City Wedding Photographer

I haven’t shared much about my wedding preparation here on the blog unfortunately. I’m not quite sure why. I suppose I should have a lot to say as a wedding photographer getting married this year … and I do. I don’t have a wedding planner which means I’ve had no choice but to be really hands on, but I probably don’t dedicate nearly enough time to the wedding coordination part of this whole process. Things have been coming along slowly but surely … but mostly slowly and stress-fully.  Most people who peek around my blog or Facebook page know I’m having a Rainbow Wedding this year and pretty much have rainbows on the brain 24/7.  So at least you know about that! 🙂

I thought it would be cool to take a minute and share something I’m incorporating into my wedding ceremony – the Unity Cross.  I found an ad for the Unity Cross in an issue of Brides magazine. Aloysius and I will be using this wedding sculpture in place of the more commonly performed Unity Candle or Unity Sand Ceremony. Because we’re having our ceremony outdoors on the water, we thought this would be a great alternative. If its too windy on the day of, it will be more difficult to light the candle or could possibly blow out too soon, and windy days are great for blowing sand every where. Another cool thing about the cross is we’ll be able to display it on a bookshelf or the awesome fireplace mantle (of the imaginary house we don’t yet own but hope to in the future) as a piece of art and constant reminder of our commitment to each other. The unity cross scored major points with us in that regard.

I love the concept of the Unity Cross because …

Its Symbolic (of two becoming one)

Its Unique

and it last FOREVER.

Check out this video and let me know if you decide to use the Unity Cross for your wedding ceremony too!

Natural Skin Care Secret || For the Bride

So you know how they say people always look  their freshest when they come back from their tropical vacation?

It never fails … Your friend who’s been on vacation for a week comes back with a clear complexion, a killer tan and they just have this awesome “I’ve been sun bathing and sipping pina coladas for 6 full days” glow and you get to feeling a little bit jealous. We’ve all heard it and seen it with our very own eyes. My mother used to tell me all the time during my teen years, “The next time you’re at the beach, bottle up some sea water for your skin – Its good for you”. I knew there had to be some logic to her little tip.  The thing is, I just never got around to going to the beach. I can’t really explain why … I love the sound of the ocean waves and I can’t get enough of that salty sea breeze (helloooooooooo – I’m a Pisces). It didn’t matter how much I wanted to be at the beach, I just never seemed to get there.  Life always intervened with my beach-y desire. Well, I finally made it my business during the July 4th weekend to head to the beach. It was the ONLY thing on my to do list for the 3 day weekend and there’s a big bold check mark next to the words “GO TO BEACH” 🙂 Aloysius and I got up super early and had our blanket sprawled out on Jones Beach by 8:30Am. It was amazing!!! We worked on our tans, waded in the water, fell asleep on the beach and by 1:00pm when people started arriving we were packing up and heading back home for a BBQ (suckers, lol)! You better believe I bottled up some of that ocean water for my skin! Actually, I made Aloysius wade in the cold summer ocean because quite frankly, that water was still pretty icy. He braved the cold waves on his chest, teeth chatter and all he collected about a quart of sea water. I’ve used the sea water as an astringent twice a day every day since we brought it home. You wouldn’t BELIEVE how much healthier my skin looks just a couple weeks later! Every month I get at least one major zit. This month my little pimple friend forgot to visit me. Do you think I’m upset about it? Heck No! You might be wondering how I know for sure its the sea water doing the trick. Well, I’ve been using Proactiv for 3 years now and it has absolutely minimized my breakouts. Just this Christmas I added a Clarisonic to my regimen and that too helped to improve my skin a bit more.  Even so, without fail I ALWAYS get at least one hideous pimple which no doubt ruins my life … I want to hide, I want to die, I want to wear a paper bag over my face. Then it goes away and I feel better … until it happens again the following month. Agh! Ever since I’ve incorporated the sea water into my routine, I haven’t had that breakout – Hallelujah! I’ve done a bit of Google research on the subject of sea water and acne and I’ve read that adding sea water to your skin care routine minimizes whiteheads and blackheads, kills acne causing bacteria, tightens pores and heals broken skin, plus its free. WINNING!

So ,whats the point of this blog post? It’s to tell you that you don’t have to spend $115.00 on the face cream Kim Kardashian uses to have beautiful clear skin! All you need is some sea water in a coke bottle and a cotton swab – then you’ll always have the “just got back from vacation” glow … And what will that cost you? A single trip to the beach … perfect!

Elissa - Interestingggg! I’d never heard of this. I wonder if I can get someone to bring me a bottle of sea water so I can try this out 🙂

Luxury Wedding Inspiration || New York City Wedding Photographer

Perhaps you’ve picked your dress from Kleinfeld Bridal, you’ve chosen a Vera Wang masterpiece or you absolutely have to walk down the isle in a pair of Jimmy Choo’s for your day to be complete.
