New Years Resolution || Health and Wellness 2012 || Jasmine E. Photography

Happy New Year!!!!!

A tad bit late, I know! It’s okay though. 🙂

What have you chosen to do differently in 2012? I feel like everyone has at least one resolution that’s always the same …

Lose Weight, Get In Shape!

We’d all be lying if we didn’t agree to that right there. I would have to say at least 90%  of us had a weight issue at one point or another,  whether guy or girl. I know this is ONE of my many resolutions for 2012.  I take weight loss personally … like, really personally. See, not too many people know this, but I at one time in my life topped the scale at just over 250 pounds. On a 5 foot 9 inch frame, it’s not so fab and really NOT healthy. The good news is, I lost a lot of weight. Two times in my life, I decided I was going to get control back.  At one point almost 90 pounds worth … GONE … and I’m really proud of myself for it! The first time I went to work, I just knew I had to get healthier for my own sake. The second time was around the time  I decided I wanted to pursue a career as a plus size model  nationally and internationally. I had been modeling for a year in New York, and had done REALLY well but wanted to kick it up a notch and branch out. It took a lot of hard work, focus and dedication but I can honestly say I did it! What I’m not so proud of is the fact that after 5 years of feeling wonderful about my accomplishment, I find myself struggling again. It’s tough. I’m SUCH a FOODY!!! And, my life has changed so much in the last 2 years that I haven’t focused on my personal health and fitness the way I’ve done in the past. No, I don’t work out for 2.5 hours a day 4 times a week anymore because life, work and love have gotten the best of me. Plus, now I’m a PHOTOGRAPHER!!!!! Let’s do a mini time line here …

  • 2004 – I weighed 250+ pounds and decided I wanted to change my life for the better (so horrendously embarrassing, I won’t even post a photo of myself – but I did lose weight. About 45 lbs)
  • 2005 – I started my journey as a plus size model (I Luv Modeling!!!!!!!!!!!)
  • 2007 – I wanted to model internationally (Lost another 45 lbs, model discovers Photography, 28 inch waist, Gym & Lettuce for 3 years) …
  • 2010 – I moved in with boyfriend of 10 years (romance and fun, fun, fun – woooo!) …
  • 2011 – I got married (A wedding photographer planning a wedding – juggling romance, work, modeling, photography & life … Ay Dios Mio!) !!!

So what that means is between 2005 and 2012 I went from 210 to 160 to 185 AGAIN!!!!!!

2005-2006                                                              2007-2010                                                               2011-2012

BLAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I love my husband to death and he reminds me every day (and even every hour on the hour) that he loves me no matter how much I think I should weigh). And he’s telling the truth. He’s been there at 250 lbs and loved me just the same …  but DAMN… I am SOOOOOOOO frustrated at myself for getting so comfortable and enjoying life a teeny-weeny bit tooooooo much.   Seems like it all went downhill once we moved in together. *bummer* Seriously though, I wouldn’t change it for the world! One of my 2012 goals is to put some of the focus back on myself. Plan my meals and hit the gym. I’m not saying I have to weigh 160 lbs again (not sure I could handle 12 hours a week at the gym and steamed broccoli diet lunches and raw spinach dinners), but I know that my health and wellness are imperial to my happiness, well being and overall performance. I just want to be the best me I can be. I owe it to myself.  Besides, once the babies start coming, it wont be about ME anymore and I’m going to be in serious trouble! 😀 Gotta start now! And Aloysius is as supportive as they come. Who do you think’s been right next to me on the treadmill all these years?!  Perhaps we’ll join CROSSFIT or start CKO KICKBOXING! Ohhhhhh yea …. once I get the ball rolling I am hardcore like that! I know what you’re thinking – “But, you’re a plus model! Plumping up is an OK thing, right?”. Well, it is OK, but somewhere between 2007 and 2009 I realized my health and fitness was waaaay more important than a lot of other things, besides, I’ll never aim to be a size 2. I love wine, cake and sushi too much!! 🙂

One of my facebook buddies joked that they would attempt to hit the gym at least ONCE this year. lol What are your health and fitness goals for 2012??

Jennifer - You are GORGEOUS!!! Gorgeous!! Good luck with your journey!

January 6, 2012 - 10:26 AM

Katie Jane - First of all – you are absolutely stunning at any weight. You made my job as your wedding photographer ridiculously easy because you are so naturally beautiful. But, I totally understand where you’re coming from. I look back at pictures of me from 2004-2006, and I am not the same person. I’ve gained about 40 pounds, and I feel so disappointed in myself. Moving in with my husband was the best thing ever – except when it comes to my waist line! We like to eat. 😉 So I am with you on the getting healthy in 2012 goal. I wish you lived in the city, because I’m looking for a CrossFit buddy!

Josh - Awesome read Jas! Dedication such as yours definitely needs to commended. I wish I was that dedicated lol. You look great at any weight, I’m sure of that.

Congrats on the marriage. 2011 couples are the best, I should know 😉

Jasmine - Ohh, thank you Katie! Aloysius and I are still gloating over our wedding pictures and can’t thank you enough!! I’m glad that most people can relate to these feelings I have. It makes me feel less crazy about obsessing so much. I wish I could open up a big gym and have all my buddies work out with me all the time. lol You’re the best!

January 6, 2012 - 2:43 PM

Jasmine - Thanks so much Jen! I’m focused!! 🙂

January 6, 2012 - 2:49 PM

Jasmine - Hey Josh!! Thank you so much for stopping in AND for the awesome comment. We are LOVING married life. I’m sure you know already, us ladies are always super tough on ourselves to be the best. I won’t beat myself up too much this year. Here’s to hoping 2012 ROCKS! 🙂

Jenny the Christmas Cat Wishing Everyone a Very Merry Christmas!!

It’s no secret I’ve neglected the blog terribly. All for good reason though. Aloysius and I have been enjoying our FIRST holiday season as husband and wife. You only get these “first” feelings once, and we’re totally living it up. We’ve spent quite a few days snuggling and watching movies together. Cooking rich, delicious food and sharing amazing drinks and cocktails. Yes, living it up for sure. Anyway, I hope everyone has been enjoying the season as much as we have. Life is precious … remember to enjoy every minute of it! MERRY CHRISTMAS GUYS!!

Oh, and Jenny wants to wish everyone a Merry Christmas too!!  🙂

Milo and Otis Movie Night || Jasmine E. Photography || New York Lifestyle Wedding Photographer | New York City Wedding Photographer || Jasmine E. Photography || Lifestyle Wedding Photography in New York and Long Island - […] Side note:  I had a cat named Milo. I named her after Milo in the movie. She was a gorgeous cat … Dark gray with green eyes. She ran away one day.  Sad, sad day. I always thought she would return with a new doggie like Milo and Otis did in the movie — nope, didn’t happen. I’ll always remember my old girl Milo, but now I have Jenny! […]

Jennifer & Colin – Long Island Wedding Photographer

This is Jennifer and her fiance Colin. They’re getting married in just a few short weeks – 23 days to be exact. They chose to hold their wedding ceremony and reception at the Women’s Club of Great Neck. We’re nearly there and I’m very excited for it!

They chose to hold their session at Captree State Park. First hand, I knew nothing about this park. I had never heard of it. I didn’t know where it was and I have to admit that I got totally lost on the way there. I hadn’t even gotten there and this park and I were NOT friends. When I finally arrived, Colin started talking about this awesome vision he had for his photos and started describing the location he had in mind. The only problem we had was his little “spot” had been barricaded off for the winter. Dang it! Oh, no, no, no … don’t think that stopped us. It was actually their idea to hop the fence! I’m glad we did because “golden hour” at this beach is fanatical! Although we were prepared to make a run for it at any moment, we thankfully didn’t have to, which was awesome! This will have to hold you over for now … More images to follow shortly!

Prospect Park Wedding – Rachel & Mark – New York City Wedding Photographer

Prospect Park Wedding, Brooklyn New York

Rachel and Mark were married in Prospect Park on October 9th, in front of 25 friends and family members. Their ceremony took place underneath the Grecian Shelter, where the most intimate and emotional ceremony I have ever witnessed took place. Being that I just got back from my own honeymoon only 3 days before, still oozing that newly wed excitement in my heart, I can honestly say it was difficult to fight back the tears. You can tell Rachel and Mark are truly soul mates. After their charming ceremony, the celebration pushed forward to “Palo Santo“, a cozy eclectic Latin cuisine restaurant located in Park Slope where their guest ate, drank and were very merry.  The day was everything a wedding should be … intimate, touching and personal. Rachel and Mark are two of the sweetest most sincere type of people you’ll ever meet and I feel insanely honored to have been the photographer to document this very special and very intimate day. Congratulations Rachel & Mark. I wish you nothing but happiness and a marriage blessed with everlasting love.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!

Lisette - Absolutely stunning! Great images of a beautiful couple!

Personal: 25 Days of Marriage and Bliss

So, if you didn’t know yet, you’ll know now. It’s been 25 days since I married my best friend. 25 days since we announced our life long commitment to one another in front of our family and those we hold dear to our hearts. The celebration was fantastic! It was more than fantastic.  Our Rainbow Wedding …  I’m pretty sure I pulled off my idea of a rainbow wedding with a few unique ideas that no doubt delighted my guest.  We ate, we danced, we cried tears of joy (more like I cried all night long) and we had a great time. One thing’s for sure … it went SO fast. This day Aloysius and I planned for nearly 9 months was over in what felt like 2 hours, if that. Some parts were a blur, surreal almost.  Once the day started, there was no stopping it – like an avalanche. Thank god for the pictures. And I don’t mean that just because I’m a photographer. I truly mean that I’ll need those pictures to recapture the day … to fill in the blanks of surrealism … to help me remember the day in its entirety.

These 25 days of marriage have been quite wonderful. I don’t know if I can chalk it up to just being the “honeymoon period”, but there’s most certainly a special feeling in the air, in our apartment  … in our lives. Its like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. Aloysius and I have known and dated each other for 11 years, but this feeling is different. There’s nothing like the comfort in knowing that this one person will always know exactly who you are, grasp your way of thinking and understand how you feel. Plus there’s nothing like the security of knowing this person will love you and stand by your side …. forever.  I get it now. Married life is can be great. Of course it takes work, but marriage is what you decide to make it. If it’s with the right person, there is nothing to fear. I’m beyond grateful for finding the right person.

I know, I know … I sound like mushy sap.  There is so much more to share with you. More wedding photos (which I can’t wait to get back), honeymoon pictures and details about my favorite wedding vendors – those who helped to make my rainbow wedding day great! I’m excited to share with you!

nadya - Aw so cute! Congrats to you both, love those pictures! Marriage is a great feeling and knowing you have someone there by your side through thick and thin is priceless. It definitely takes work, but communication is KEY! Always say whats on your mind don’t bottle it in and listen to each other and just be honest. Always Always keep each other laughing, dont take things too seriously and try to have a date night like once a month (this is hard for some reason lol) with us working weddings on weekends or shooting its harder, but remember to give yourself that one weekend to spend time at home once you get even more busy with weddings! 🙂
